NEWS

November 30 , 2004 - It's been a long time since there's been an update, I know. But whatever. Check out a new results page from a new trail run I ran this month called the Stinson Beach Trail run. Details in the Running section of Other Appetites.

September 13 , 2004 - Photos.rainwalk.net is back up, but I've password protected it to satisfy some privacy issues that came up. If you want to see the pics, please contact me.

August 27, 2004 - Rainwalk.net was down for a while today, undergoing a hardware upgrade, details here. Things are still not all back the way they were, including the games servers, and database functionality, which I'll be working on to get it back into shape. kthx.

I've also taken down the photo gallery. Privacy issues...

June 30, 2004 - I've finally gotten around to setting up the Gallery software on an Apache web server running on an alternate IP address. Check it out at photos.rainwalk.net.

June 23, 2004 - After some more coding last night, I've added a searchable Imperial Library section to the Traveller pages. Yay PHP! Yay MySQL!

June 21, 2004 - I'm playing around a bit with PHP and MySQL, so I've put together of a bunch of planet data for my Traveller campaign. Check out the planetary search engine.

June 2, 2004 - I came across some old pics of a jury-rigged water cooling setup I built and attached to Locust a while ago. Having nothing better to do, I put them up. Check out the pics here.

May 24, 2004 - Headcrash received some new hardware. Check it out here.

May 21, 2004 - We started a new Traveller campaign centered around an adventure called Twilight's Peak recently, so I've put up a new section containing characters and a campaign log. Check it out here.

May 17, 2004 - The Bay to Breakers was yesterday and I gave it everything I had, including the contents of my stomach, right there on the finish line. Here are my results (older results on my b2b page):

May 10, 2004 - I'm redoing the look of Rainwalk.net. Why? You might ask. Why not? Sez I. I'll be moving the pages of this site into the new format, but the basic file structure will remain the same. Basically, I'm creating a standard look-n-feel across the site, but it takes time, so it'll be happening over the course of a few weeks.

Older news has been cut from the front page to speed up load times and moved to an Archives section.

March 10, 2004 - The final updates to the Autumn Twilight campaign are in. The printable view weighs in at 73 pages (!). Check out the daily log here.

March 1, 2004 - We've finally completed the Autumn Twilight campaign, a campaign that we originally started in 1994. The campaign journal isn't completed, but I did put up a substantial update, with the rest to follow shortly.

February 3, 2004 - January results for Plague Devastation are up. Check them out here.

January 23, 2004 - As if I don't have enough hobbies, I'm starting to build a 10" Newtonian Telescope, courtesy of the Telescope Workshop at the Chabot Space and Science Center. Details here.

December 28, 2003 - Massive Head Trauma releases two songs! Well, actually, I've finished two songs except the vocals, which I'll probably never complete. Check out Don't Get Me Started and Dangling in the Breeze. Details here.

December 8, 2003 - After a bit of a break, in which I immersed myself in some Urban Terror goodness, I'm back. Rainwalk.net was down for a while with some weird power supply problem, but it appears to be fixed. Sorry about that.

I'm starting to daydream about a new project box for another rig. Details in the PCMods section.

October 13, 2003 - Added another drive to Locust. Details here.

October 10, 2003 - An update has been released for Systemic for Unreal Tournament 2003 which has been loaded onto Plague Systemic. Details here.

October 5, 2003 - Some updates to the About Me vanity section of my site, including updates to my resume, some songs I've written and recorded, pics of me and Jason Newsted backstage at a Metallica concert, etc. If you are bored, check it out.

October 2, 2003 - I've done a bit of reorganizing and have put all the necessary files for Plague Devastation into one directory located here. Details here.

October 1, 2003 - I've put up the September results of fragging done on Plague Devastation. Check out the results here.

I've also finally got Squirrelmail working. For those of you who don't know, it's a web-based email client written in php and works really, really well with the Mercury/32 free Win32 email server. The access page is here.

September 18, 2003 - Earthquake ran out of storage space so it got a new hard drive and a new bracket to mount it in. Details in the PC Mods section.

Also, for some of you that have asked, I've put up the Story of Chug Win up in the FTP site. There are five MP3's of the original crank call, so download them and laugh at people freaking out about receiving a new surprise adopted child.

September 16, 2003 - I've grown tired of the current Devastation map list, so I've created a new one. Details here.

September 8, 2003 - I've done some updates to the Autumn Twilight campaign log and reorganized them so they'll load faster. Check out the recent updates here.

September 5, 2003 - Whelllp. I did some fragging the other night, and have started the Thursday Night Frag on my servers. I've posted the results and monthly totals from these fragfests, so check out the PC Games section for details.

August 14, 2003 - We've been doing a bit of deathmatching lately so, thanks to Section8 of Q2 Devastation fame, I've put up a Systemic server to run along side the Quake 2 Devastation server already running on Plague. Check out all the info on the PC Games Section.

August 4, 2003 - New pictures of Plague in its new rackmount case are up in the PCMods section. Check them out here.

July 30, 2003 - Welcome to the new Rainwalk.net! Rainwalk.net now lives on Plague, which has become rebuilt as a dedicated server and now lives in rackspace graciously donated by at-link.com's new facility being developed in San Francisco.

As part of the new Rainwalk look, I've finally gotten around to adding a Forums section and am putting up a dedicated Quake 2 Devastation server. It's a low bandwidth game by today's standards and should run quite nicely here.

Go download the latest maps running on my Devastation server over in the FPS section. Enjoy!

June 17, 2003 - Locust has a new look, and I've posted pics to prove it. Head on over to the Locust Case Mods Update section. Now.

June 1, 2003 - I came across this, the Flame to End All Flames, and thought I'd keep it in case I ever needed inspiration in how to insult an ignorant user.

In computer news, I received a few parts from eBay and did a bit of parts swapping and modding which I hope to continue throughout the week. Details in the PCMods section.

May 27, 2003 - My 2003 Bay to Breakers results have been posted:

Notes to self: I arrived at the Fruitvale bart station as it opened at 6am, which got me to the starting line at 6:45-ish. I was maybe 5 feet from the start ribbon. Try to qualify for sub-seeded next year which will start closer to starting line. 57:54 watch time. 58:40 official time.

Next year do more distance (8+ miles) workouts. The hill was a cinch but ran out of legs by mile 6.

May 12, 2003 - More mods to Plague completed. Details here.

May 1, 2003 - I'm still tinkering with my rigs. See some details in the PCMods section.

April 30, 2003 - By not so popular demand, I've set up a forum section on a temporary basis to see if anyone chooses to use it. Plus I wanted to see if I could set one up. It's a piece of shareware and isn't fully active, but if you want to have an account, email me and I'll set one up for you.

April 24, 2003 - The fan duct came in, so I finished the latest set of mods to Headcrash last night. The rig is now lean and mean and will serve up dedicated games, a small database, and other applications as necessary. Check out the details here.

April 22, 2003 - I've been working on some new mods to Headcrash, looking to go back to the old school of beige-box modding. I'm waiting for a fan duct from directron.com and once that goes in, I'll be posting a full story on the Headcrash pages.

In the meantime, I've put in some updates to the Autumn Twilight campaign pages so go take a look at the campaign log.

April 20, 2003 - I finally got around to taking some digital pictures of the acrylic PC that I built for my mom. Check out the rough pictures and specs page here.

March 23, 2003 - It was a weekend of updates, spawned by the purchase of a new ATI 8500 LE video card and the acquisition of five SCSI hard drives and a RAID controller. The video card went into Earthquake, causing some reshuffling of hardware among the boxes, and the drives and RAID controller went into Headcrash as a new RAID-5 array.

Headcrash will be going under the dremel this week to make space for the five additional drives and the 120mm fans to cool them. I'll post pics as work progresses.

February 26, 2003 - ...And the updates just keep on coming, don't they? Today's updates involve still more work on the campaign pages for Autumn Twilight and include character backgrounds for two of the characters involved. You can find their backgrounds here and here.

February 24, 2003 - In a complete flurry of activity, I've done two updates in less than a month! Unbelievable!

I've been spell checking these pages and working on updates to my Twilight 2000 campaign, Autumn Twilight. Check out the updates starting here.

February 21, 2003 - To quote Master Samwise: 'Well, I'm back.'

It looks like I was a bit premature with my last post. I may have been back up and running, but I sure wasn't ready to post updates, that's for sure. Looking through the updates list below, it seems I've been depressingly busy for quite a while. However, most of the immediate work we want to do on our house is done and the rest will have to wait until summertime. Also, my job situation is still rather nebulous but solidifying, but I'm waiting to get paid...

In the mean time, I've updated my Computer Mods section with a new wood case I built for Earthquake, so enjoy!

Also, please take note that I no longer keep Headcrash up 24x7 so the game server and links that point to rainwalk.net or Headcrash don't really work anymore (unless you happen to check this page while I have Headcrash on). Since I don't keep Headcrash on, I've moved these pages to my members pages at Speakeasy.net, but you know that already because you are reading this page.

September 9, 2001 - Back up and running. Weee! I've set up the master page here at www.Rainwalk.net and even managed to get dtv to set up another DNS Alias and an MX record to point to my server at headcrash.rainwalk.net Joy! New email addresses! I'm not sure what I'm going to use the web space for, but at the least the DNS reference will make finding my Quake 2 Devastation server easier.

Here is the status on Headcrash Devastation. To view it you need the Q3Plug plugin. Details here.

At the moment, it's running the stock Quake 2 deathmatch maps, but expect some changes soon as I pull up some Dev-friendly maps.

August 28, 2002 - Bleh DirecTVInternet. Those yahoos have fux0red up my direct link to this page so if anyone is actually reading this page it'd be a miracle. When I moved into our new house, I had to cancel service at my old house and then reconnect at our new house. Makes sense, right?

But then, when I get to my new place, I'm told that the old account name is in use and so I cannot have it again. Well duh, it's in use because I'm the one using it and I'd like access again. It's been three weeks and they still haven't gotten around to fixing it. Makes me want to host this page myself, but with only a 77k up speed on my DSL line that doesn't really seem like a good idea.

July 16, 2002 - It's been a while since my last update, I know. Things have been a bit chaotic here in real life. My wife and I have sold out house and bought another one in Oakland, CA. That, plus I'm sitting for my MCSE keeps me busy enough that updates to this site have been sadly lacking.

Hopefully I'll be able to update this site more regularly, but in the meantime, I've put up a new FPS logs section so that when the fellas come over for some LAN partying I can put up some of the logs from the nite's carnage on this site to immortalize it.

I've also updated the Twilight:2000 campaign section. It isn't totally current yet, but I'm catching up.

June 11, 2002 - I finally got around to building the wood case that I've been thinking about for ages and ages. It worked out better than I expected. Check out the new Locust page here and the details of the wood case here.

May 20, 2002 - My Bay to Breakers results from yesterday's race:

Arriving at 7:00 am got me to Spear and Howard, taking me 1 minute 25 seconds to get to the starting line.

May 7, 2002 - I added some updates to Headcrash and to the Autumn Twilight pages. Enjoy!

April 16, 2002 - So I finally got my pics scanned from my Earthquake project. They turned out to be of really, really bad quality due in part to taking them on a disposable camera, getting them developed on matte paper and scanning them at 150dpi.

At any rate, you can check some of the better pics out in the How to Watercool an Earthquake section.

April 15, 2002 - Happy Tax Day! Grrr Uncle Sam.

While moaning about the large wad of cash that Uncle Sam is making me spend on the national debt, I went ahead and updated the Autumn Twilight pages with more campaign events that can be found here.

April 2, 2002 - I was messing around with Plague and Locust last night and learned an important fact (read: I did a vewy stooopid thing). Screws dropped on a video card while the computer is running are very bad for the health of said card. Read all about it here.

I just hit my 500th work unit completed on SETI@Home's stats page. They sent me a cute little certificate for 0.61 years of service. How nice.

March 8, 2002 - I failed the insanity test. Does that mean I'm insane? Wait, maybe it means I'm sane. Oh bother. Funny but I don't know why.

In other news, I've updated the Autumn Twilight pages with more campaign events. Check out the geeky goodness here.

February 26, 2002 - I updated the Autumn Twilight pages with the most recent campaign events. Check them out here.

February 20, 2002 - I finally updated the mud pages that were a holdover from my last, vintage 80's-era web page. Not much there except for some mudding notes to myself as well as some stuff I wanted to keep. Call it my Medievia scrapbook. Or don't.

February 7, 2002 - I'm a shot of Jaegermeister: I warm the heart, but overall I'm darned offensive. Go figure. Brought to you by DrinkStreet.com

Which drink are you?
January 30, 2002 - I rebuilt Headcrash for the umpteenth time last night, adding a new RAID controller and some hard disks to give it some sweet RAID-5 goodness. I'm thinking I'm going to put up some fragstats links or something to the web page it hosts here. Check out the details here.

January 18, 2002 - In wandering the web, I found it! I thought it was destroyed in Orodruin, but apparently there's a guy who makes the One Ring in Germany. It's made by Hause Schmuck no less. Celebrimor, eat your heart out:

Yes. I admit. I'm a geek. But it would be pretty cool to have one. Do you suppose the Ring comes in comfort fit?

January 14, 2002 - Overclocked Earthquake over the weekend after tweaking its cooling setup a bit. It's now running at 1598MHz at 1.85vCore. Check out the details here.

January 3, 2002 - Weee! I got a certificate from SETI@home today for completing my 100th work unit over the weekend. I didn't know they did stuff like that. It only took me 1000 computer hours, too! Check it out here.

December 27, 2001 - I know it's been a while since my last update, but I've been busy with holiday shiznit. I updated my Autumn Twilight pages with campaign stuff that you can find here.

I'm also debating purchasing another SCSI RAID controller for Headcrash, and a couple of SCSI drives to give it life once again. Now that Earthquake is working well, maybe it's time to bring my server up to its past glory once again.

November 28, 2001 - Continuing with the computer frenzy I've found myself in, I've made tons of changes to various computers of mine. Check it all out in the Computer Mods section.

November 13, 2001 - Bah. Adaptec. I did a bunch of computer tweaking and part swapping over the weekend, and decided up wipe Headcrash and make it a Win2k Server machine, seeing as how I'm studying for my MCSE. Anyhow, it turns out that my AAA-133u2 RAID card isn't on the Micro$oft HCL so that's that.

This card is only like two years old. Why wouldn't Adaptec put out drivers that work for Win2k? Bah. That irritates me.

Otherwise: I finally got Steinberg's Cubase/VST working on Earthquake after receiving some information on tweaking latency times on the Delta-44 from the Cubase forums:

Go to your Delta control panel...hardware settings...and set the DMA Buffer size as low as you can. If you start hearing pops and awful noises from your speakers then raise these numbers one step up. Also make sure that you are using the M Audio Delta ASIO driver...good luck

I'd forgotten how rocking this program is, and on a new Athlon 1.4 GHz, it screams!

November 8, 2001 - Long Live Zero Wing! For Great Different!

November 2, 2001 - While I was transferring files from Plague to Earthquake I spent some time going through the tons and tons of crap that I've collected electronically over the years, as I never throw anything away.

At any rate, I found a journal of an AD&D campaign that I ran for my two housemates back in the early 90's when we were in college. Check it out here. Or don't.

October 29, 2001 - Over the weekend I had water play. That is to say I got the hardware mounted into Earthquake and played around with different hardware settings. See some updates here.

What the hell is this? Anyone know? Someone found this important enough to post.

From [H]ardOCP: Lego pr0n or Bible Lesson?

October 26, 2001 - Okay, so watercooling kicks @$$. I got my cooling loop set up in my HX08 case and it's undergoing testing right now. I'm letting it run for 24-hours straight before I put in my hardware in case leaks develop. See the results here.

Trav has also sent me some more stories for the t2k character of his. Check them out here.

October 22, 2001 - Gamed over the weekend so the T2k pages have an update. Trav also sent an update on his t2k character. Check out the story here.

October 19, 2001 - I did some work on Earthquake this week, dremeling out the fan holes and placing the watercooling system. The pump is louder in its new location, so I have to figure out some way to dampen the vibrations that are carrying through the metal.

October 12, 2001 - The Earthquake pages has been updated with a question for you hardware forums people out there.

Now that I've collected all the parts for my new PC, I'm in the planning stages of setting it all up and I've put a layout question here because it's easier to create a web page than it is to post stuff into a forum, IMHO.

September 25, 2001 - The T2k pages have been updated. The campaign journal has been brought up to date and a new section has been created for character backgrounds.

September 24, 2001 - So I was going to put up an update to my T2k campaign, but I ended up doing a bunch of link fixes and bugchecks. Thanks Trav for pointing out my mistakes. I spent the rest of the day proofing and tweaking. You probably won't notice a thing. :P

My Ultra-160 SCSI drives arrived with my Adaptec 19160 card today. I was playing around with them on the machine that will be Locust. Damn... these thingies haul @$$.

I'm dying to start modding my new case, but I've decided that Earthquake will be a reward for when I finish re shingling my house. There's no hurry, really, as the motherboard I'm going to use, the a7v266, is waaay backordered and I'll probably wait for the next revision. I hear that it'll have a more stable, faster chipset, the VIA KT266a. Dunno much about it, other than many peeps are ranting about it on ASUS forums.

The only hurry is that it's supposed to rain this week, and I haven't finished the damn house. Crap.

September 17,2001 - I switched the local weather link to weather.yahoo.com. They give a better, more accurate, more local version of the weather than weather.com.

An update to my T2k campaign log is coming soon.

September 13, 2001 - Do I even have to talk about recent events? If you don't know what I'm talking about, get out from your closet and join the rest of humanity. I think it's interesting that Altavista has created a new search section devoted solely to news searches on "terrorist attack".

Anyway, I've been working on these pages a bit more. The Computer Mods section has been updated with a bit of scratch about my computers. I'll be posting updates there a bit as the parts for my new computer come in.

September 10, 2001 - Woo! My HX08 case and my Digital Doc 5 arrived today! These items, with the arrival of my Flowmaster Max watercooling kit last week, means that I can start modding my new case for Earthquake. Joy!

September 6, 2001 - Still working on the links. Most of the information I have on the site has links now. If you get a 404 error when trying to view a page, that page doesn't exist yet.

The Orbaal section under the gaming resources section still needs to be redone, but the info is there. Pardon the incredibly annoying, Intro-to-backgrounds-and-glaring-fonts look.

September 4, 2001 - Welcome to Rainwalk.net - a work in progress.

This site is currently full of broken links and missing files. Be patient. I'm putting the site together from all sorts of fragments.
